In the first game, Tontowi/Liliyana could steal the game easily. The Chinese pair seemed unable to adapt with the Indonesian pair's rhythm. Liu/Bao often times made unnecessary mistakes during the first set.
“We didn't want to be careless since the beginning, we were ready to take on Liu/Bao. Moreover, we were more relax and enjoying the match, I personally didn't bother with the result, the only important thing is to gain one point at a time," Tontowi said after the match.
Receiving mean pressure in the second set and losing 7-11 from Liu/Bao, the three time All England champion (2012, 2013, and 2014) finally forced tie. 17-17. The match was fierce until approaching the end of the second set. However, Tontowi/Liliyana finally stole the set and secured their ticket to semifinal.
“Frankly, there had been no changes in the way our opponents played in the second set, but we were the ones who repeatedly made mistakes because of impatience. We managed to get our focus back and tightened our defence," Liliana said after the match.
In the semifinal held tomorrow, Saturday, (6/6), Tontowi/Liliyana are still waiting a winner from a matched played by China's Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei and English Chris Adcock/Gabrielle Adcock.
When asked to comment about whom they wanted to meet in the semifinal, Liliyana stated her preference to the Brits.
“If I can pick, I would like to have the English please, but whatever the result will be, we are ready. Most importantly, we should perform well, patiently, because if we are rushy we tend to show flat shots. We want to have more control and play calmly," Liliyana stated.
