Tommy Sugiarto, the Indonesian men’s singles player is through to the second round of Blibli Indonesia Open 2018 after beating Khosit Phetpradab from Thailand in a three-set match of 20-22, 21-10, 21-16 which was held earlier today, Wednesday (4/7).

In fact, Tommy had the chance to secure the first set after leading 20-17 on the edge of the set. Unfortunately, Khosit managed to score 5 consecutive points and overturned the situation to 20-22 for Khosit.

Learning from his mistakes, Tommy immediately attacks his opponent aggressively on the second set. Furthermore, the physical condition of Khosit is declining on the third set, thus further boost Tommy’s confidende.

“In the beginning I was adjusting myself to Istora’s atmosphere and yes, there is a shining moment for me on the first game. Thus, on the later sets I don’t want to make the same mistakes and I kept on putting pressure on him on the last few points,” said Tommy.

“It was more toward my motivation and mindset, why did I lose my grip on my winning position? It’s such a shame that I missed my chances, that’s why on the second and third game I played better. On the third set I feel more confidence as I see the physical condition of my opponent is degrading,” he added.

Tommy had to receive treatment from the team doctor during the match when he hurt his hand while playing in Malaysia Open 2018. The blood flows all over the place and bothers Tommy’s mind, thus he asked for help from the team doctor.

“I come to this tournament unsseded, and I play in front of the home crowd. The matches are getting tougher from this moment on, now I want to focus on my recovery and hopefully I can show my best performance for tomorrow’s match,” said Tommy.

On the second round, Tommy will see Choe Tien Chen from Taiwan. Fortunately, Tommy claimed that he is ready for tomorrow’s encounter. The head-to-head statistics between Tommy and Chen benefits Chen, where he outperforms Tommy in a 4-3 lead.

“If I were to see Chou, the head-to-head statistic between us is almost equal. Whoever controls the rhythm of the play and whoever control the field condition will win the match,” claimed Tommy as he finished the interview.
